EXERCISE: What Is Best for Diabetics?

EXERCISE: What Is Best for Diabetics?

If we were to list one major failing of diabetics in their self-care, it would probably be lack of exercise. We don’t like it, so we put it off and then we just neglect it. All the cute and labor-saving gadgets on the market have caused us to engineer inactivity into our lives. We have a machine for everything we used to do by hand: cutting grass, raking leaves, shoveling snow, and even climbing stairs. Some of us even have a robot that does our vacuuming! We spend time in front of our computers and televisions that prior generations spent in work or recreation. Physical inactivity is killing us, and research has shown it to be the second leading preventable cause of death in the United States. Which exercise is the best? A 2009 study found that resistance training (weights) lowered HgbA1c more than aerobic (treadmill). The study was of…

High-energy Breakfasts Promote Weight Loss in Diabetics

Breakfast: It’s the most important meal of the day, and it could also be a key to living better with type 2 diabetes. New Israeli research indicates that a high-energy breakfast promotes weight loss, improves diabetic symptoms, and decreases the need for insulin. Academic researchers from Tel Aviv University presented the study at ENDO 2018, the 100th annual meeting of the Endocrine Society in Chicago. Their research shows that a diet that includes three meals a day—a big breakfast, average-sized lunch, and small dinner—had many rapid and positive effects in obese, insulin-treated type 2 diabetics. Positive results included more effective weight loss, less hunger, and better diabetes control with less insulin. “The hour of the day—when you eat and how frequently you eat—is more important than what you eat and how many calories you eat,” said lead study author Daniela Jakubowicz, M.D. “Our body metabolism changes throughout the day. A…

How Can We Strengthen Our Immune System?

Pharmacist Ben Fuchs (www.criticalhealthbnews.com) tells us that much of what we need to do to support immunity, we should be doing anyway. From his most current article, we learn that “supplements, taken daily, can be important immune boosters. While they won’t cure or prevent Coronavirus symptoms by themselves, they can help the body take care of the problem. His short list includes, zinc picolinate, a ‘must have’ at 50mg, same with Selenium chelate 400-600 micrograms and Vitamin A 25,000IU.

Essential Oils

Essential oils are the liquid extracts of potentially beneficial plants. They are becoming very popular as people use them widely for a variety of common conditions, and some research shows that they are helpful. The word “essential” is derived from the fact that the oils capture the plant’s scent and flavor, or “essence.” They are generally safe when used correctly–which means that they should always be diluted before applying them to the skin and never ingested. They are commonly used in aromatherapy. One plant yields only a small amount of oil, so it takes lots of plants for enough oil to fill a small bottle with essential oils. Get this: it takes about 50 roses to create just one single drop of essential oil. That is why they are expensive, but they last a long time, so it’s wise to accumulate a collection of various essential oils over time. Since…

NITRIC OXIDE: NATURAL CANCER FIGHTER

We hear a lot about nitric oxide these days, especially on all those commercials about beets.  A recent article, “Is Nitric Oxide a Cancer-Healing Powerhouse?” by Dr. Veronique Desaulniers is instructive, so we summarize it here for our readers. Nitric Oxide (“NO”) is one of the most studied substances out there and is believed to slow and even stop tumor growth. It may well be one of the strongest yet little-known cancer-fighters.
