This issue we feature our Chief Medical Advisor, Stanley Lewis, MD, MPH, who oversees all Diabetes Relief Medical Directors and medical operations. We are very fortunate to have Dr. Lewis expand his role with our medical team as we grow. His knowledge and experience are tremendous assets to the Diabetes Relief enterprise.
In his medical career spanning more than 20 years, his work has been dedicated to primary patient care, clinical research, teaching, and healthcare administration. He is devoted to medical research and improving the way we approach medical conditions and deliver care. However, his most endearing quality is the sincere care he brings to the medical profession. Dr. Lewis lives by the mantra, “No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care.”
Dr. Lewis is recognized as a key opinion leader in internal medicine, and he has been invited to deliver educational presentations nationally and internationally to healthcare professionals, governmental agencies, and patient groups.
He received his BA, his MD, and his MPH from the University of Texas, so there’s no doubt he “loves his Longhorns.” After graduation, he joined the faculty of the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, where he served with distinction, being nominated for the prestigious Humanism in Medicine Award and winning the Master Teacher Award. Among his many community service awards, Dr. Lewis has been a past recipient of the Trail Blazer in Medicine from the Brentwood Community Foundation; the Quentin R. Mease Super Achiever Award from the YMCA of Greater Houston; and the Award for Distinguished Service from the Warren Corporation.
Prior to joining Diabetes Relief, Dr. Lewis worked tirelessly in the field of HIV/AIDS. His leadership has led to novel approaches to patient care and treatments. In addition to his unsurpassed devotion to patient care, Dr. Lewis brings extensive leadership and clinical research experience. Dr. Lewis’s background includes participating as Principal Investigator or co-investigator on dozens of national and international clinical trials. He has numerous peer-reviewed publications, abstracts, and book chapters to his credit. We enthusiastically welcome him as he brings his impressive track record of success along with his thoughtfulness and innovation to the areas of diabetes and other metabolic disorders.
When he’s not working to save the world from death and disease, Dr. Lewis can be found spending his time with his wonderful wife, Ronda, and their adorable children, Kelsey and Caleb.
